Who is Klimbo for, and who is it not for?

For children in groep 7 and 8 at a Dutch primary school who practise maths, spelling and reading for a short time every day, and for parents who want to see how it is going. A child in another year is welcome too: they practise with the groep 7 or 8 material, and the starting check finds where practice starts. Your child practises in Dutch, so Klimbo fits a child who has lessons in Dutch at school. With dyslexia, dyscalculia or a big gap, Klimbo is an addition to the help at school. Not sure? Email us.

What does the AI do, and what does it not do?

The AI writes the explanation, the hints and the encouragement for a question, fitting the mistake your child makes. After a mistake your child has three buttons, in this order: "Hint" (a short pointer), "Leg het anders uit" (explain it differently: the same explanation in other words) and "Ik snap het nog niet" (I still don't get it: the first step shown). Then your child may try again. If it goes wrong again, the tutor shows how it is done under the heading "Zo kan het" (this is how), with the answer at the bottom. Your child cannot type anything to the AI. They choose from those buttons. A fixed learning engine decides whether an answer is right, which level fits and what the next step is, not the AI. Everything your child gets to see goes through a filter. If your child taps "Ik snap het nog niet", Klimbo asks an AI model from Anthropic to show the first step. That model only gets the question, the right answer and the kind of mistake. What your child typed does not go with it, and neither does anything that could identify your child. Anthropic is based in the United States and does not train its models on that data.

Does my child see a level or a mark?

No. A mark or a level mostly tells an eleven-year-old how they compare to the rest, and that does not help with the next sum. Your child sees a map and how far they got today. You see per topic where practice starts, never a comparison with other children.

Is Klimbo a game?

The map in the app is the backdrop. Your child sees where they are and where they are going. The practice itself is calm, one question at a time. There is nothing to buy, nothing to collect and nobody to play against.

Which device does it work on?

Your child practises in the browser on a tablet or laptop, and you follow along on your phone. Linking works with a code or by scanning a QR code. The apps for iPad, iPhone and Android come around the official start.

What will it cost, and when can I start?

You can start today. Until the official start in January 2027 you pay nothing; in return we ask you now and then what could be better. We announce the price well before the start. You then pay per child, and every child after the first costs less. No money is taken until you take out a subscription; you cancel yourself in the app, per month and without a notice period. You can delete your data there too. Founding families keep their own agreement.

What do you ask of us while it is free?

That your child practises for fifteen minutes on most days, and that now and then you answer a few short questions about how it is going. If something does not work, we would like to hear it.

What happens at the official start?

Well in advance we email you what Klimbo will cost. You then decide yourself whether to take out a subscription; nothing is taken automatically. If you do not take one, daily practice stops. We keep the account and your child's progress for another twelve months, so you can pick up where you were later. After that we delete everything automatically. You can always delete it yourself, with one button in the app.

Why does the tutor not give the answer straight away?

Because your child learns more by thinking first. After a mistake your child first gets a hint, then an explanation that fits the thinking mistake they made, and a second try at the same question. If that goes wrong too, the tutor shows how it is done, step by step, with the answer at the bottom.

Where do the questions come from?

From a fixed practice bank that was checked in advance, not from an AI that makes something up on the spot. Every question can be checked by machine, and every mistake belongs to a known thinking mistake with its own explanation. The same questions are on klimbo.nl/oefenen, free and in Dutch.
