Accessibility statement

Version 0.2, draft, 16 October 2026. Applies to klimbo.nl and the Klimbo app (web).

This is a translation of the Dutch text. If the two differ, the Dutch text applies.

What we are working towards

Klimbo wants to be usable for every child and every parent, also with a screen reader, only a keyboard, or another way of seeing and reading. We work towards the WCAG 2.2 guidelines at level AA for the site and the app.

Status: partially compliant. Below is what is already good and what is not yet.

What is already good

  • All buttons and links can be reached with the keyboard and have a visible focus outline.
  • The colour contrast of text on its background meets AA; the colours were chosen and tested for it.
  • The typeface (Nunito) is large and easy to read; the app has a setting per child with larger letters and more letter spacing.
  • Texts in the app can be read aloud with the browser's voice ("Lees voor", read aloud).
  • Forms have labels, error messages are in text next to the field, and nothing is shown by colour alone.
  • Switches, checkboxes and buttons tell screen readers their role and state.
  • There are no timers, no moving images that cannot be stopped and no flashing elements.

What is not good yet

  • A full test with a screen reader (VoiceOver on iPad and NVDA on Windows) of the child's session and the parent dashboard.
  • Drag and point questions in the app get an equivalent way to answer with only the keyboard or only tapping.
  • Descriptive alt text for all illustrations, the mascot included.
  • An audit by an independent accessibility expert before the first pilot with a municipality.

We expect to finish these points before the first pilot with a municipality or Stichting Leergeld. We will put the date and the outcome of the audit here.
